Cornerstone Medical Recruiting would like to take this opportunity to wish all Nurse Practitioners a happy National Nurse Practitioners Week, and to thank each and every nurse practitioner for their dedication to the communities they serve. Hosted by The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National NP Week raises awareness of the importance of nurse practitioners as healthcare providers. Today there are over 155,000 NPs providing care in the U.S.
Nurse practitioners play a key role in healthcare, and will even more as the physician shortage increases. Because of some of the recent changes in laws regarding healthcare, namely the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, by 2014, there will be 34 million newly insured Americans facing an expected shortage of 150,000 primary care physicians in the next 15 years. Now more than ever, nurse practitioners, and their physician assistant colleagues, are the solution to a growing healthcare need. As hospitals and medical practices nationwide continue to struggle to find top physician and nursing talent, nurse practitioners fill the gap with an estimated 15,000 NPs needed.
Again, Cornerstone Medical Recruiting extends our most sincere thanks this week and every week, as we honor those Nurse Practitioners that work tirelessly to care for their patients, and continue to make enormous contributions to today’s world of healthcare.
